Cave Dwellers
$1,085.00
This One-of-a-Kind necklace is approx. 26” long.
The large pendant is a Tibetan fertitlity pendant made from the sacred chank shell, also known as an Indian conch shell. The design is stamped in and reminded me of ancient cave paintings. The smaller antique pendants are also from Tibet, and have beautiful little repousse designs on the back. Repousse is a method of embossing a sheet of metal by punching and hammering the piece on alternating sides to create volume.
My inspiration for this peice came from the antique pedants, their rich coloring and obvious wear and tear are very intriguing and must have a great history. The large brown beads are bronzite and I surrounded them with African coconut shell and antique Tuareg silver beads from Mali, Africa. The Tuareg people are a nomadic tribe and descendants of the Berbers. They were known as the Desert Noblemen and traveled around the Sahara Desert region. The beads date from the early to mid 1900s. These are beautiful old beads with lovely patinas and signs of usage. They must have great stories to tell of distant travels and lives. When you wear them it is fun to look down at them and wonder who wore them before you, where they were from, what clothing they wore, and … - well it could go on and on for a long time. I have also included antique afghani silver amulets, hand carved wood mala prayer beads from Tibet, and sterling silver beads and findings.
Hand crafted in the USA using imported materials.
